Sweet Sarasota

Sarasota, FL

Two of my favorite meals of my entire life have been consumed in Sarasota, FL.

Be sure to swing by the Big Water Fish Market for lunch. Now don’t be fooled as you pull into this little non-descript strip mall. This is an actual fish market with a small dining area.

You won’t be disappointed…BWFM boasts about having the #1 grouper sandwich in Florida. Rightfully so…once you take your first bite, you will not deny them of this title. So delicious! The seating is picnic bench style so prepare to enhance your dining experience with other patrons. Also feel free to BYOB! They allow you to crack open a cold one of your own, but if you travel lightly, they do sell beer there along with other non-alcoholic beverages. This is a must-have for me every time we visit the area.

Pompano en Papillot

Now onto The Columbia Restaurant. The amount of business they do at lunch time on a daily basis speaks for itself. Located in the charming, must-visit St. Armand’s Circle, make sure to make a reservation on their website. Even for lunch…in July… or you will have to wait to be seated. If you’re visiting the Sarasota area during peak season, make this reservation as soon as possible. The first must-have you need to order is their 1905 Salad made table side. We loved it so much, we now make it at home. Their menu selection is vast. You can’t go wrong with any of the highlighted items in the menu but if you want to really treat you taste buds to a delicious meal, I personally recommend the Pompano en Papillot. This is my #1 meal ever. I will repeat… this is my favorite meal that I’ve ever had in my life. The Columbia Restaurant also has several other locations throughout Florida.

Sunny day at Lido Key

Siesta Beach can get very crowded so if you’re driving, go early to secure a parking spot. Other less-crowded beaches (at least when we have gone) include Turtle Beach which is south of Siesta Beach and Lido Key which has both a public beach and a nature park. Lido Key offers chair and umbrella rentals. Totally worth it if you plan to be there for the day. Bring your own towels.

Tip: If you’re traveling with your furry companion, Brohard Paw Park, a dog-friendly beach.
